Winning a Wonderful Mate

This entire book is geared to a home life of real situations. I refer to self, children and mate in the most generic form yet these techniques should, and will, trigger ideas whether you are single, with someone or with a family running a household and lifestyle.

Sometime during my thirties it started occurring to me that I was over-analyzing far too much of life’s everyday issues and that I was also over-spending to try and attain those ‘things’ I deemed as necessary. It was about this time that I realized that to continue on this path of stress would eventually lead to a detrimental illness and/or inescapable debt. So I decided that I first needed to speak to those I loved, admired and trusted to gain some valuable insight and then I would have to slowly start to Undo what I had taken years TO do. I did just that and certain patterns started to become immensely clear.

I had managed to have a huge, gorgeous but impractical home plus glamorous job titles that had me working ridiculous hours to keep up the façade and which also wreaked havoc on my nerves, time and expectations of what anyone could humanly and physically accomplish. I had my own businesses, side jobs and was a single parent of two. I had to maintain all income since my vanished, ex-husband was incapacitated and I had two kids to raise regardless, both with ADHD. To make all of this worse, I ‘thought’ I was Wonder Woman and that, that in itself, would be a great example for my kids should their adult lives present trials and tribulations someday, as everyone seems to face at one time or another. I was a martyr, came from a long line of 'legitimate martyrs' and thought that this was an admirable trait. Yuck...was I ever wrong!

It almost seemed as though there was compliance from the universe to be kicked every time when I was down. I went through so many unnecessary issues not understanding that there was a path of sense, a practical order to follow if one wanted an easier, happier life. I brought undue negative results into my life so much so, that my brother-in-law used to say, “Mary Anne, if you didn’t have BAD luck, you wouldn’t have any!” I thought that I was cursed; doomed to pay dues for some harm I had unknowingly done, or worse yet, I thought that I was somehow being used as an example for others. My immediate family was so exasperated by my dilemmas that they referred to me by a figment American Indian name, calling me ‘Black Cloud!’

When I was pregnant with my second child, whose tests showed conclusively was to be born with Downs-Syndrome, I was just taking it in stride thinking this situation was my cross to bear.

I was managing a bridal shop when at near full term, a total stranger walked in my store and took one look at me and told me that everything would be alright. I was stunned, not so much by her proclamation, but instead by her detection of what was really going on beneath the mask that I so desperately convinced myself I was maintaining. No one was the wiser since I was a very private person, embarrassed to explain all that I was trying to handle and in addition, a regional manager who had to convey solid leadership. She held my hand and said, “You don’t know me but I am going to help you. I want you to go to the mirror every morning and repeat”, ‘I have everything I will ever need within myself, right now.’ I thought that she was a Looney-tune so I dismissed it for about a week or so and then I thought…hey, what the heck, why not try it? I felt I had nothing to lose by doing so.

So I started doing this methodically every day and have since and yes, it absolutely changed my entire life. Those things I came to understand have improved my life profoundly. Granted, it didn’t happen overnight like magic but it did, indeed, happen. The following chapters may seem inconsequential to some, but I promise you, these steps will work and do work for anyone and everyone who does them devoutly, everyday…or, at least every time you think of them.
